AFTAB The French Association for Artistic Wood-turning has for ambition to be a link between professionals, artists, craftsmen, amateurs, galleries, exhibition and demonstration fairs, markets, museums, administrations, schools and all the different fields of the "métiers d'art".
AFTAB's aim is the promotion of artistic wood-turning. This art is now, little by little, taking on again an air of nobility thanks to a group of turners who make others aware of their creative expression and show or exhibit works rich in know-how and beauty. -
Marc Ricourt French wood-turner living in a small village in the mountains near Dijon. Its shapes are strange, sleek, round or stretched. Spirals and grooves appear under his gouge and chainsaw.
Marc Ricourt enjoys working subtly the wood essences, often like a lace or embroidery. Implicitly in his work, we find his major interest on Oceanic art and primitive art. Equally important, the colors, brown, black and white, he prepares these himself with iron oxide, by burning or discolouration. Self-taught, his work is specific and the result of his creativity. -
Thierry Martenon French sculptor who creates elegant, stripped down forms with lots of unique surface markings. He says he is always looking for new textures to experiment with and likes to discover new ways of bringing out the grain in a tree. Although his works are pure and simple, very contemporary in fact, the wood itself is primitive looking and this creates a unique contrast with the fluid silhouettes.
All the wood he sources is from the Chartreuse Mountains, which is very close to his studio in south-eastern France. The wood species used creates a very natural feeling in the works, although quite simple in their form, they remind of rock formations in a zen garden, or little mountains that are shaded with different textures and tones. A really beautiful work. -
Jérome Blanc Jerome Blanc is a wood-turner living in Switzerland, he constantly innovates and produces a very contemporary work based on purified shapes accompanied of coloured textures, his research gives a very aesthetic final appearance.
To have met him several times, his humility and his artistic approach reflects his commitment to discovery. He likes to communicate his knowledge, he likes to share.
